MAIN STREET BOWIE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Main Street Bowie has 15 Directors who develop the goals and policies of the program.  Board members represent the broad spectrum of downtown stakeholders.  They serve as Main Street Bowie Committee chairmen and key committee members, as well as important advocates for downtown revitalization.

MAIN STREET BOWIE COMMITTEES & VOLUNTEERS

In addition to Main Street Board members, other community volunteers serve as on-going committee members that help implement the annual Work Plan.  Main Street Bowie also has a large base of event volunteers who work short-term assignments, such as staffing one of our special events or festivals.

CHICKEN AND BREAD DAYS HERITAGE FESTIVAL

Committee Purpose

Plan and produce a major festival that promotes Bowie and its historic downtown to area residents and out-of-town visitors.  The annual festival is the first Saturday in October.

PROMOTIONS COMMITTEE

Committee Purpose

Plan and produce special events and festivals to promote Bowie, downtown and its businesses.

Activities/Subcommittees
• Promote Main Street Bowie activities through a variety of public relations tools.

• Coordinate the annual Hanging of the Green that decorates downtown Bowie for the Christmas season.
 
• Plan and produce all aspects of the annual Santa’s House and Fantasy of Lights Christmas Parade on the first Saturday of December.

• Look for other opportunities for promotional and fundraising events.
 

• Assist with retail promotions and cooperative advertising for downtown merchants.        


 
DESIGN COMMITTEE

Committee Purpose 
Encourage quality design improvements through renovation and restoration of historic buildings, compatible new construction and streetscape enhancements.
 
Activities/Subcommittees
• Research/collect publications, photos, and other materials that serve as examples and resources on quality design improvements and revitalization incentives.

• Share Main Street design tips through meetings, newsletters, and other media.

• Review and approve design components of any Main Street Incentive Grant applications.

• Assist building and business owners in finding qualified contractors.

• Advise City regarding public improvements in the Main Street target area.

• Advise City regarding codes and ordinances that support downtown revitalization.
 

 


 
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

Committee Purpose
Serve as a source of information and support for existing and new retail and commercial businesses. Support heritage tourism activities to promote Bowie to visitors and to increase Bowie’s capture of tourism dollars.

Activities/Subcommittees 
• Keep database of businesses and buildings in the Main Street target area.

• Assist building owners and realtors in providing information about buildings for sale or lease.

• Research publications, websites, agencies, and other resources that can assist businesses to grow and improve.

• Compile and distribute this information in a “Small Business Tool Kit.”

• Sponsor or co-sponsor educational/informational meetings.

• Assist Chamber of Commerce in updating and distributing tourism marketing materials.
 

• Participate in regional efforts like the Red River Valley Tourism Association, Lakes Trail, and Montague County Tourism Council.


 
PARTNERSHIPS WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS
AND COMMUNITY EVENTS

Main Street Bowie often works with other community organizations and events whose goals are complimentary to Main Street’s mission.  In the past year, Main Street volunteers have partnered with the Friends of the Auditorium, Bowie Chamber of Commerce, the Bowie Alliance for Education & the Arts, the Allure of Light Antique Lamp Show
and Jim Bowie Days to bring positive activities to the community.
